Blueberries are ripe!  2011 is a banner crop of blueberries.  They are much larger and growing in clumps versus other years.  Good Spring rain, followed by sun and a touch of luck from Mother Nature has give us a good crop to share with our guests this summer.  The Bartlett Inn, surrounded by the White Mountain National Forest of New Hampshire, has 2 and a half acres covered with wild blueberry bushes that are ripe for picking!  The blueberries are a beautiful deep purple and are ready for pie, pancakes are just by themselves!  Come stay at the Bartlett Inn in one of our family friendly cottages and enjoy free blueberry picking before or after Storyland in Glen New Hampshire!!  We picked a pound today and will enjoy the pie later!! With some ice cream of course.

The whole family went out for the first cross country ski day of the season on Saturday, 14 January, 2012.  The new snow in Bartlett and the chilly temps made for fantastic grooming and skiing!  Packed powder and no ice!   Bear Notch Ski touring Center is dog friendly and has 70 kilometers to ski.  We brought our cockapoo and met other very friendly dogs and skiers on the trails!  The Cockapoo, Noodles, even pulled one of the kids for ski jouring fun! The Waterfalls were part frozen and some of the brooks were still flowing – spectacular views. Bartlett New Hampshire is a snow sweet spot!  Just outside of North Conway in in between Ski Wildcat, Bretton Woods  Ski Resort, Attitash NH, Cranmore Mountain, Jackson NH Cross Country and Bear Notch Ski Touring the Bartlett Inn is a great location for all snow activities.  We are a few hundred feet higher than North Conway NH and tend to get a Mountain effect of extra snow fall  and tend to keep it longer than the lower Mount Washington Valley Locations.  We have over 5 inches of new snow and it is still coming!  Book you Christmas Week Vacation at  1800 292 2353!  We will have the Hot Apple cider and Brownies waiting by the fireplace! All the main Ski Resorts near North Cownay NH are now open for Skiing.  The cold weather has allowed the mountains to make tons of snow the last few days and we expect some natural snow this week!  Attitash Ski Resort is just 2 miles East of the Bartlett Inn.  Bretton Woods is just 16 miles West of The Bartlett Inn. Cranmore Mountains is Just 12 miles East of the Bartlett Inn.  Wildcat Ski Resort is just 16 miles North of the Bartlett Inn. The Bartlett Inn has specials for midweek ski and stay this week and non holiday from $60.50 per person including breakfast!

That is correct.  You can cut your own Christmas Tree for $5 bucks in the White Mountain National Forest  of New Hampshire!  The Bartlett Inn has a tradition of cutting our own Christmas Tree each holiday season.  Usually we find a nice tree on our own property but this year we just could not find one that had a good shape so Innkeeper Nick and his family went to the Ranger Station on the Kancamagus Highway in Conway, NH and paid just $5 to cut our own tree.  This is a great deal on Christmas trees that can cost from $20 – $120 dollars. The Bartlett Inn prefers to cut a less traditional tree: It goes by many a name; Charlie Brown Tree, Stick Tree, Pencil Tree or the real name Fir Balsam.  It is fragrant and grows with larger spaces between branches than trees grown on a tree farm.  It is not as full and bushy as a farm grown tree but it has benefits as the space between branches allows ornaments to be seen and dangle freely and it has an open airy feel.  We made a point to make and buy very light ornaments as the branches are not very thick or stiff.

What better than a sunny September day to take The Bartlett Inn’s Summer Employee (Ozgur from Turkey!) on a sight seeing day and where better than for a ride up the Mt Washington Auto Road in Pinkham Notch NH.  We like the sign that says not a good road to drive if you have a fear of heights at the beginning of the road!  A little frightened we put the truck into 1st gear and went for it!  What can we say…spectacular views at every turn and the top too! We enjoyed lunch at the canteen and the museum in the bottom of the observatory.  One perk of driving up is that you are not limited by the time of the returning coach or cog train.  There are many hikes that can be done from the top too!  On teh way back to the Bartlett Inn there is nice short hike to Glen Ellis Falls off Route 16 .
