Mt Washington Views with Bartlett Innkeepers in NH Foliage NH

What better than a sunny September day to take The Bartlett Inn’s Summer Employee (Ozgur from Turkey!) on a sight seeing day and where better than for a ride up the Mt Washington Auto Road in Pinkham Notch NH.  We like the sign that says not a good road to drive if you have a fear of heights at the beginning of the road!  A little frightened we put the truck into 1st gear and went for it!  What can we say…spectacular views at every turn and the top too! We enjoyed lunch at the canteen and the museum in the bottom of the observatory.  One perk of driving up is that you are not limited by the time of the returning coach or cog train.  There are many hikes that can be done from the top too!  On teh way back to the Bartlett Inn there is nice short hike to Glen Ellis Falls off Route 16 .

It seems that due to a warm autumn New England’s Fall Foliage 2011 is peaking a bit later this year! Bartlett Innkeeper Nick Crossing a Bridge Carter Notch NH

This is the first post in Bartlett Innkeeper Nicks series Adventures in the White Mountains of NH: Winter.  Share my wilderness experiences as I tell about my hikes in the White Mountains of NH!

 I went on a beautiful winter hike on 27th January with two friends of mine Matt and Greg. We went on the 19 mile loop trail  ( only 7.8 miles round trip) in Carter Notch Jackson NH – the trail head is just above Wildcat Ski Mountain. The trail was in great shape and we didnt need crampons or snow shoes . I Used Crampons on the way down as I was going solo. Met the Hut master Mike who was studying Pine Martens. The views around the hut looking at the Wildcat mountain and on the other side Carter Dome were spectacular. The lake was frozen and the ice was over 3 feet thick so I felt very safe crossing it. There are a few small exposed areas where you will feel the wind and temp drop – apart from that – a very protected trail. To see more pictures and details of our hike go to the Bartlett Inn Facebook page and become a friend .The Bartlett Inn  near Jackson NH is a great base to go out winter hiking.  Greg and Matt stayed at the Bartlett Inn Wednesday night to charge up and then spent Thursday night at the Carter Notch Hut and returned to refuel at the Bartlet Inn and do more day hikes with the Bartlett Inn as their base for Ice Climbs  at Cathedral Ledge, North Conway,  NH and Frankenstein Cliffs Crawford Notch NH.

Great suggestion for the hardpack from Heavens and their rentals start at just $12 per day..doesn’t get any cheaper than that!  We are expecting snow tomorrow so come and enjoy some New Hampshire skiing.  Bretton woods Had 4 inches yesterday and the White Mountains are looking at another 12inches tomorrow!  Come on up Bretton Woods has 2 for 1 lift tickets Wednesdays and Cranmore has Mon-Thurs 2 for 1 lift tickets.  Stay at the Bartlett Inn and get a yummy breakfast to start your day along with a great midweek ski deal room rate! 1 800 292 2353

Pumpkin Patch at the Bartlett Inn NH

Halloween is a great time of year to visit the Bartlett Inn near Jackson and North Conway NH.  What is there to do….Well ..

Bartlett Village has the quaintest old time Halloween Trick or Treat night where the neighborhood houses decorate there porches with haunted houses or glowing jack-0-lanterns, hot apple cider by the vat and lots of candy and a few Tricks too!!
Cranmore Mountain in North Conway New Hampshire has a frightening Ghoullog Ride up the mountain ..not for the timid or the small kids!  Even the teens are scared! 
   There is an accidental but delightful pumpkin patch at the Bartlett Inn this year!  We threw a couple of pumpkins in the compost pile and this summer ended up with a beautiful pumpkin vine which we hope yields many orange pumpkins!!  This was a Trick and a Treat!!
Did we mention this is a perfect time of year for hiking in the White Mountains!

Sabbaday Waterfalls near Bartlett Inn NH

Sabbaday Falls New Hampshire is a Family Friendly Hike near Bartlett Inn NH located 3 miles WEst of Bear Notch Road on teh Kancamangus Highwayy US RTE 112. THis is a great hike for youn g and old and handicap and everyone in between as teh trail is wood chipped without lots of trippy rocks and large logs across it. Tehre are several benches to rest along the way and for a very little effort these are my favorite Waterfalls in New Hampshire.  Theya re jsut beautiful from teh emerald pool at the bottom to the several flumes and drops along the way…raw power and beauty.  Stay at teh BArtlett Inn in Bartlett NH as a central place to explore the many stunning WATERFALLS  of New Hampshire and teh White Mountains.  Innkeepers are happy to give you advice and directions depending on the difficulty of the hike you would liek to do or if youw ould liek to just pull over and snap a few pictures.  There are options for all levels of waterfall lovers!
